AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEE: We guarantee the authenticity of all our items. Japanese Silk Kimono Gray Hand embroidered White. Fully lined in white with spring related patterns. Japanese kimonos are intended to be appreciated beyond their function as.

An art form in their own right. Showcasing both traditional and one-of-a-kind motifs, as well as the enduring techniques and innovative ideas employed to make these exquisite artworks. Hand embroidered on this formal single-color kimono (Iromuji) are incredibly fine spring related patterns including flowing water/streams (Mizo no nagare), spring graded colors, mist (kasumi) swimming ducks and various flowers. (ideal for a spring tea ceremony).

The embroidered designs by hand are along the hem only reaching about 2 feet from the hem (appropriate for an older woman). The design is asymmetrically placed along the hem, with the design being larger and higher-placed at the left side than the right.

This kimono is estimated to be from the mid 1950s. Japanese artisans have used embroidery to create An opulent effect on this elegant tea ceremony kimono -- With silk floss and variations on the "long and short stitch" or satin stitch, hira-nui, the artisan has built up motifs, in the feathers and leaves. From farther away, the effect is of feathery lightness and slightly prickly plumage. Up close, the technique that brought this rather complicated and precise look off is really somewhat simple in concept. Gold and silver threads are made of foil applied to thin membrane or paper strips which are wrapped around silk threads. These metallic threads cannot be stitched through the silk fabrics, so they are traditionally "couched":laid on the fabric surface and stitched down with fine silk threads. The flowing water is embroidered with gold couching with metallic yarns placed side by side. The technique is called shusu.
