Lithophane porcelain reveals a photo that can be seen when held up to a light source. Geisha Girl tea sets, less commonly known as "Lady Kimono" ware, were first introduced in the late 1880s and produced until the 1950s. When a teacup is held up to the light, a photo of a geisha girl is revealed. This 24 piece set is eggshell porcelain, and one of the most beautiful that I have seen. Two women and a girl are in a lush Japanese garden under a bower dripping with wisteria and surrounded by irises.
Raised enamel and a bit of gold paint. Traditional reddish brown paint for the border as well as the handles and spout. The photo inside the teacups is a known as a Single Geisha. The teapot has a bamboo handle and a ceramic tea infuser that sits inside the pot. Only one piece is marked with two Japanese characters in red meaning Dai Nihon (Nippon), translating to Great Japan.
The set is in excellent condition. Very clean with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
One plate has a tiny chip under the glaze on the underside rim. The set consists of the following measurements are approximate. 1 TEAPOT & Infuser - 20 cm wide x 15 cm deep x 13 cm tall, excluding handle 8" wide x 6" deep x 5? 1 SUGAR BOWL with Lid - 14 cm wide x 11 cm deep x 9 cm tall (5½" wide x 4¼" deep x 3½ tall).
1 CREAMER - 11 cm wide x 9 cm deep x 7 cm tall (4¼" wide x 3½" deep x 2¾ tall). 6 TEA PLATES - 7.3 cm (6¾). Vintage and antique items are seldom 100% perfect; there will be imperfections from age and use. I try very hard to describe my items accurately. Please read the descriptions and look carefully at the photos. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I use reclaimed boxes and environmentally friendly packing peanuts that are biodegradable. For easy disposable run water over them in your sink, they will dissolve in water, or you can toss them into your compost bin (they are made of starch). Wherever possible, I will use reclaimed bubble wrap as well. Local pick-up available in the Toronto area.
