Antique Meiji Gofun Asian Japanese Fugi Musume or Geisha Doll DA4161412oo. Thank-you for viewing my listing of this very unusual vintage Japanese Dolls on Platform. It is said that pictures are worth a 1,000 words but let me add just a few more in regards to specifics of this doll. Ize: The Young Woman is approximately 9.75 inches (24.5 cm) platform top to top of head. With platform, woman is 11.25 inches approximately (28.5 cm).
Platform is 5 inches (13 cm) in length by 3.75 inches (9.5 cm). Material Used: Gofun head and arms/hands over wood. A wood pole is inserted to supports the Woman.
This doll has a carved wooden head with gofun finish, inset enamel eyes, wooden throat dowel into a straw-form body, wooden limbs, black hair which feels like silk. Hina's Purpose: This young lady or teenager is carring a branch of flowers possibly wisteria and stands in front of a tree. She is possibly Fugi Musume/Wisteria Girls and less likely a Geisha. She wears what appears to be a lantern hakama (although a decorative skirt instead of the contemporary one's which are usually a single color) which were found on young ladies who were miko or shrine maidens. This hakama is worn over a kimono which has a design of blooming flowers and fans.
Not sure which part of Meiji period. Condition: Very nice Meiji Era doll. Body is intact and clothing appears clean.
There may be some stray threads. Clothing is lighter in front as compared to the back but still has significant color. She has an open-closed mouth. Some of their hair is soft, wayward, breakage and does not stay exactly where put, and frizzy in back.
I see a small hairline crack (not raised or seperated - where the two pieces of head would have joined) under each of her ears (although the left ear one is very faint) by the neckline of her kimono. The area where the pole supports the doll wears against the straw body, dropping bits of straw on the platform. There is paint wear to brown shoes. Tree probably has lost leaves/flowers over the years.
It is normal for the head with dowel lifts out of the neck of the body - it is designed this way.
