A collection of four vintage Japanese hair accessories comprising two hair combs and two hair pins. CONDITION: good vintage condition with expected wear. A collection of three vintage Japanese hair accessories comprising a comb and two hair pins. #1 large comb measures 1½ x 3½ ins (4 x 9 cm).

#2 small comb measures 1¼ x 3¼ ins (3 x 8 cm). #3 larger kogai measures 6 ins (15 cm). #4 smaller kogai measures 5 ins (13 cm).

The combs are made in the traditional rectangular shape with a curved back. They are made from wood covered with gold lacquer and.

Further embellished by inlay in mother of pearl. The kogai or hair pins are of the type which come apart in the centre to be inserted into the traditional Japanese coiffure. Both are of wood covered with black lacquer and gold work and decorated with a traditional design opf bamboo leaves. Such ornaments represent a link with traditional forms in Japanese hair accessories which have been used for many hundreds of years before Western styles began to supplant traditional forms.
